Behind the scenes with the bansuri virtuoso

For Svara, we recorded three bansuris with different ranges. All of the bansuri recordings were performed by acclaimed musician Naveen Kumar. While his list of credits is numerous, but he's perhaps most well-known for his work on A. R. Rahman's ‘Bombay Theme.’ In this interview, he talks about the origin of the instrument, his path to becoming a musician, how bansuri is always played with a smile, and how sample libraries are changing the face of international collaboration.

For Svara, we recorded three different sizes of bansuri with the distinct sonic character of Indian film music. The collection contains a wealth of other instruments, textures, and nuances for composers writing Bollywood-inspired scores or seeking a unique sound palette for worldbuilding soundscapes.
