The sine wave, transformed

Every natural sound we hear is a combination of different sine waves that vary in amplitude, frequency, and phase relation. Sinoid takes this very basic building block of sound and tests its limits in every conceivable direction. Starting points are the warmth of an analog sine wave, the breathy purity of woodwinds and ocarinas, the percussive tones of glockenspiel and vibraphone, or the ethereal voice of the singing bowls. Then the color sweeps in with 23 dual-layered sound design patches—each transforming and mutating the sound dynamically, and dramatically.

In addition to the analog sine wave generator, Sinoid samples bass clarinet, bass flute, alto flute, bass ocarina, tenor ocarina, vibraphone, glockenspiel, and singing bowls. These instruments were chosen for their purity of tone, and performed in animated articulations that provide a distinctly human contrast to the sine wave generator. Everything is recorded with multiple close microphones and mixed down to a single intimate, but sonically rich, mic position in the SINEplayer.

The sound design patches were created by putting the original recordings through a modular system stacked full of boutique effects. Each patch features two complementary layers, so you can manage the intensity and heat of the sound with the modwheel. Everything was sampled chromatically and recorded for up to sixty seconds, resulting in different behavior/patterns up and down the keyboard. Stygian patches explore dark, ambient, and dystopian themes. Ethereal patches venture into the organic and atmospheric realm, and the Ravaged patches are brutal and distorted.

Mic merging
Preserve your system resources: Fine-tune your mix using multiple mic positions, then merge into a single channel within the player.
