Vivid Keys

Versatile Studio Grand

The warm, organic sound of a classic grand piano—in vivid detail.

Recorded in a dry studio using close mics, Vivid Keys captures the pure, direct sound of a Yamaha C3 grand piano—a mainstay of recording studios worldwide. By using the soft pedal for all samples, Vivid Keys delivers rich, round timbres.

Three ready-to-go mixes let you start creating right away. The natural mix offers an upfront, present sound with just a touch of optional reverb. The cinematic mix builds on the softer dynamics of the raw piano tone, adding a large, shimmering pad. And the tight pop mix uses dynamic compression to provide the punch for cutting through any production.

About Organic Samples

Organic Samples collections are designed to capture specific moods and sounds, with a focus on expression and ease-of-use. The goal is to capture the character of a performance—the dynamic interplay of sound and performer.

The driving force behind Organic Samples is Maxime Luft—a young composer who started creating the instruments he needed for his own productions. The Organic Samples series is available exclusively from Orchestral Tools.

The instrument

The Orchestral Tools team recorded the Yamaha C3 grand piano in a dry studio at T-REX Classics in Berlin. Engineers placed mics close to the strings to create an immediate, intimate sound. Extensive sampling of dynamic layers, transitions, key releases, and mechanical noises captured every nuance of the instrument.

Recording the piano with a dry, close-mic’d approach gives you the greatest flexibility for incorporating Vivid Keys into just about any type of music. Whether you’re composing for TV or film, producing the next pop hit, or crafting a new indie song, Vivid Keys will quickly and easily fit into your mix.
